Platypuses at an Early Age
They were first spotted in South-East Australia around the coast of rivers and lakes. One of the platypuses ancestors went back to the dinosaur period, that was found on the coast of Australia. The platypus was different in a few ways thousands of years ago. They were about 6 inches bigger than they are now. They also had sharp teeth for protection. Everybody that was told about the platypus thought it was a hoax because the way people described the animal was unbelievable.
Platypuses Now
Platypuses have changes over thousands of years. They have gotten smaller in height and larger in size. Instead of having teeth, they have little ridges of gums that are pretty sharp. They are one of the only mammals that lay eggs. They are known because of their beaver tail, and duck bill. They are a land and water animal, but spend most of their time is spent on land. They don't travel in groups so they can easily get trapped by a predator.
Adaptions
In 200,000 years the platypus will change many ways to survive. It will double in size so they can be more scary to predators. They will grow teeth back so they can hurt other animals in emergencies. They will stay under water longer so they can hunt fish easier. They will travel in groups so they can over power single animals. They will have a harder bill to hit animals with. With all this protection they will be able to move to other parts of the continent.
